HISTORY Founded in 1909 by real estate developer O.D. Jarrell, along with E.C. Haeber, the town was settled at the intersection of an old stagecoach road and the Bartlett and Western Railway that was under construction. While cotton, corn and cattle served the settlers of Northern Williamson County well in 1800s and 1900s, new commercial enterprises such as light manufacturing, limestone quarrying and many others will dominate the next years.
In the 21st century, Jarrell has embarked on a period of expansion and transition...expansion in both population and commercial interests...and transition from a traditional agricultural base to a more diverse economy.
Located on IH 35, the principal NAFTA artery, Parmer Lane extension project (w/in city limits), and north of the new State Highway 130 Toll, Jarrell is well-placed for easy transhipment of products to southern ports and northern markets. Being centrally located as a "hub" for Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, Ft. Worth and Houston, we are a prime location.
An excellent school district offers diversity in education to meet family, career and workforce needs.
Jarrell incorporated in 2001 and around 1,900 residents inside the city boundaries. Affordable land prices and proximity to Austin's high-tech center give Jarrell a prime position in a growing market.
