Once home to roving Indians, today Georgetown is a community of more than 48,000.  Known for its fastidiously preserved past and rich natural resources, the community works to maintain a balance between tremendous growth and preserving the quality of life amenities of a smaller community.

Established in 1848, Georgetown is the county seat of Williamson County.  Known for its rich history, Georgetown has over 180 homes and buildings on the National Register of Historic Places and was the recipient of the Great American Main Street Award in 1997, the first Texas city ever so recognized.

As the first institution of higher learning in Texas, Southwestern University has a rich history grounded in the pioneering spirit of those who settle the beautiful Texas Hill Country. Southwestern is a private, highly selective liberal arts institution that was established in 1840.  It began in 1835 when Col. William B. Travis sent a letter from the Mexican colony of Texas to the publisher of the "New York Christian Advocate" calling for the establishment of a Methodist presence in the region where settlers were beginning to revolt against the government of Mexico. Five years later Southwestern was born from the vision of a single Methodist missionary.

The "Palace" was built in 1925 by A.C. Moore of Bartlett, Texas.  A grand opening in February of 1926 brought silent films to this new community gathering place. The stucco exterior of 1938 brought a major distinction to the Palace: it is reported to be the only building of the Art Deco period found in Georgetown. In 1990, a group of concerned citizens founded the Georgetown Palace Theater, Inc. to save this historic theater.
